Local Races Supporting A Good Cause

If there is one thing we know by writing a monthly racing calendar, Philly is not short on races. Just about every weekend you are sure to find a 5K, 10K or even Half! While we love a good race we want to take the time to point out some upcoming races that benefit a good cause.

St. Jude Run To End Cancer – Sept. 24

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

West Chester Stomps Cancer 5K – Sept. 30

Join them on Friday, September 30 in West Chester, PA for the 7th Annual West Chester STOMPS Cancer 5K and 1 Mile Family Walk. This family-fun event brings the community together to STOMP cancer, all to raise funds for BHH to pay essential household bills for local families with cancer.

Ronald McDonald House 5K – Oct. 1

When children are stricken with cancer or other serious injury or illness, an already challenging situation can become even more complicated when child-specific care is not nearby or readily available. The Ronald McDonald House Charities operates hundreds of housing facilities located in the immediate vicinity of hospitals that provide child-specific treatment. Proceeds from the 6th Annual 5k Run/Walk for the Ronald McDonald House will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities to support their ongoing efforts to improve the lives of children and families everywhere.

4 The M.I.N.D.S. 5K – Oct. 1

4 The M.I.N.D.S. was started in 2011 by two friends, Nicole Stolarski and Tina Oplinger, after Nicole’s husband was diagnosised with Bipolar 1 and Tina’s best friend succumed to depression.  Both women realized no one should feel alone in the daily journey through mental illness.

Your Next Step is the Cure 5K – Oct. 2

The “Your Next Step is the Cure” events raise much-needed funds for the patient services and clinical research projects of the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, but they also provide fun, family-friendly activities, including a kid’s dash, music, 5K event awards and more.

David’s New Day 5K – Oct 8

David’s New Day is a tax exempt approved 501 (c) (3) non profit organization dedicated to spreading awareness and hope in the face of addiction. Their goal is to subsidize the cost of addiction treatment and services for those who need it but can’t afford it.

Miles for Migraine 5K & 10k – Oct 8

Miles for Migraine will host its next Philadelphia 2-mile Walk/ 5K/ 10K Run and Kids Treasure Hunt in the beautiful Wissahickon Park along Forbidden Drive. This Fundraiser for Migraine & Headache Awareness, Treatment & Research will take place Saturday, October 8th, 2015 at 8:30am featuring awards for the top male and female runners and walkers.

Generosity Philly 5K – Oct. 30

The Generosity Philly 5K is being run with the purpose to raise money to support the Philadelphia Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association (PSAA) Trustee Scholarship. This scholarship was established to help provide educational access to Philadelphia area students facing prohibitive financial burden.

Rachel’s Helping Hands Cancer Foundation is hosting its 2nd annual 5k & 1 mile Family Fun Walk on November 13th at Wilson Farm Park in Wayne, PA. This foundation was created in honor of Rachel Paster with the purpose of easing the financial burden of co-payments for doctor’s visits and prescription costs associated with cancer treatment.
