Registration is now open for the 2016 Boxers’ Trail 5K Run/Walk! The race will be held on Saturday, September 10, starting at Mander Playground (2140 N. 33 rd St.) in East Fairmount Park. The event, presented by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the Fairmount Park Conservancy, and the Strawberry Mansion Neighborhood Action Center and the Strawberry Mansion Community Development Corporation, will benefit the community youth programs at the Mander Recreation Center and in East Fairmount Park.
In 2015, the Boxers’ Trail was named one of Philadelphia’s best running trails by Philadelphia Magazine. As part of its Philly Powered initiative, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health will train first time runners and walkers and present certificates of achievement for those who participate in the event.
Working with trainer, Coach Lez, WDAS 105.3 host Mimi Brown will chronicle her efforts as she trains to participate in the run/walk. Learn more about her efforts by visiting: phillypowered.org. Philly Powered is a city campaign aimed at encouraging Philadelphians to become more physically active to reduce the risk for high blood pressure, Type II diabetes and heart disease.

Strawberry Mansion residents can register for free by calling 215-988- 9334 or by visiting the Strawberry Mansion Action Center at 2829 West Diamond Street, or Mander Playground at 2140 N. 33 rd St.
This 5K run/walk starts at 9:30 a.m. and will take runners and walkers through the famed trails where heavy weight boxing champion Joe Frazier trained. The 5K run is timed, with medals for children and the top male and female finishers; the 5K walk is a non-competitive way to participate and see the trails.
All participants who register for the race will receive a Boxers’ Trail 5K t-shirt. Snacks, fruit and water will be provided at the finish line, where participants can also enjoy free boxing demonstrations. Following the race, Strawberry Mansion Day will take place from noon to 7:00 p.m. This family friendly event will include food, education, music and more.
