The Oddyssey Half Marathon just announced the following press release:
Register now for the Distillery Run and Seminar on February 6.
If you run in Philadelphia, you know that the folks behind the ODDyssey Half Marathon like to find creative and fun ways to support the local running community. “We believe it is important to give back to the community that supports us every year.” Says race director Carl Ewald. “A part of that commitment is using our skills and connections to support local charities and create fun experiences for runners.”
This winter, they have partnered with New Liberty Distilling and three local running experts to bring a fun, new charity event to the community. You can now register for The Distillery Run& Seminar – Run, Seminar and Tasting to Run Your Best in 2016.
The day starts off with a 3-mile group run from Center City to the New Liberty Distillery in Fishtown. When you get there, you will be greeted by the expert staff in their gorgeous tasting room in the historic Crane stables. After an introduction to the craft distillery, and a free sample of course, the seminar portion of the day will begin and they have three running experts lined up to help you have a great 2016.
- Kelly Jones, RD, founder of Eat Real Live Well, Director of Nutrition at Newtown Athletic Club and an Associate Professor at BCCC, will give advice on nutrition for runners and how to properly fuel for an active lifestyle.
- Dr. Michael Ross, renowned endurance sports expert at the Rothman Institute will speak about how to increase your speed based on his background as a sports medicine physician
- Coach David Wisniewski, from Philadelphia Running Concepts, will present tips for optimizing your training plan in 2016.
- After the presentations you will have an open Q&A period with the experts.
Best of all, all profits from the event are being donated to Open Streets PHL, a local non-profit that is working hard to bring days with car free streets to Philadelphia in 2016. Remember how amazing it was to run in the empty streets when the Pope was in town? (Or missed out because you fled?) Open Streets PHL is working to bring you that experience a couple times every year.
If that is not enough, the folks at the ODDyssey have created a series of glasses that celebrate the most iconic landmarks in our running community. Everyone who signs up will receive the first glass in the series for free.
What better way to kick off your 2016 running season than with fellow runners, at a distillery and learning from some of the best experts in the City? The run and seminar cost only $25 and you can register for the event here.
Hurry though, the Distillery Run& Seminar is capped at 100 runners. So, it is sure to sell out.
